The drug is an anti-cancer drug with the active ingredient palbociclib.
Palbociclib inhibits certain proteins called cyclin-dependent kinases 4 and 6, which control cell growth and division. Blocking these proteins can slow the growth of cancer cells and slow down the progression of cancer.
The drug is used to treat patients with certain types of breast cancer (hormone receptor positive, epidermal growth factor receptor-2 negative breast cancer) when it has spread beyond the original tumor and/or to other organs. It is prescribed with aromatase inhibitors or fulvestrant, which are used as hormone therapy to treat cancer.
