The skin is the largest organ of the body. Often misunderstood as the “shell of the body”, it has important functions. It forms a barrier between the inside of the body and the outside environment. It protects the body from damage caused by physical stimuli such as heat, cold and mechanical stress. It also prevents the entry of potentially pathogenic microbes. The skin counteracts the excessive evaporation of body fluids. This protects it from drying out. Daily stress and small accidents quickly lead to skin injuries. The most common are scratches and scuffs. Some diseases, such as diabetes mellitus or circulatory disorders due to other causes, also lead to skin damage. Ulcers form that are difficult to heal. The same applies to bedsores. This is especially true for bedridden people. Injuries disrupt the integrity of skin cells. There are entry gates for pathogens. The result is inflammation. First of all, locally on the skin, as the disease progresses, a generalized infection is possible. Antiseptic, bactericidal agents will help prevent this.
PVP-JOD AL – antiseptic for skin and wounds
The over-the-counter drug PVP-JOD AL is manufactured by ALIUD Pharma GmbH. This is an ointment with the effect of destroying microbes. It is especially suitable for the treatment of skin and wounds. The antiseptic effect protects existing wounds from infection and thus promotes healing. It fights inflammation in areas of the skin that are already infected. Conventional disinfectants irritate the skin and cause severe pain if the skin is damaged. PVP-JOD AL is gentle on the skin.
